There's No Place Like Shopping Local for the Holidays!

November 20, 2020

Leah Rizzo

2020 was a year that started off with so much hope, happiness, and potential for so many. Captions like “It’s the Roaring Twenties again!” “2020 is going to be MY year, I can feel it!” and “Ready for the best year ever!” flooded Instagram and Facebook feeds on the first day of what has turned out to be an extremely long year. When the lockdown and quarantines first began back in March it was especially a struggle for folks living and working at and around the Delaware Beaches, an area that depends on its hospitality and unique small businesses to thrive. As restaurants and retailers closed their doors for the lockdown, many people turned to online shopping like Amazon and big box stores like Walmart to stave off boredom, putting further strain on local businesses trying to survive the coronavirus pandemic. Traditionally, this time of year is full of a magical buzz and mixed feelings of warmth and stress brought on by the impending holiday season. A warmth that seems to be lacking this year. If you miss the “good old days” of a Norman Rockwell Christmas let this be the year you bring it back by shopping local this holiday season. Need a little inspiration? Here are some local businesses ready to get you started on your holiday shopping list.

Christmas Spirit
You can’t talk holiday shopping without a little Christmas Spirit. While open year round, the holiday season is this Rehoboth staple’s time to shine brighter than the star on the top of the tree. Christmas Spirit has been in business since the late ‘70s and continues to deliver holiday cheer on Rehoboth Avenue. If you’re having trouble getting into your holiday shopping, make this local business your first stop. With at least twenty seven themed trees and collectables you’re bound to find something that sparks the warmth of cherished memories brought about by the Christmas season. Wee Forest Folk, Willow Tree, December Diamonds, Christopher Radko, and Old World Christmas are just a few of the types of collectables you’ll find here. If you’re an ornament collector, or are shopping for one, you’re bound to find some lifetime favorites at Christmas Spirit. Get more information on their Facebook Page
