Self-Taught: Work from RAL's Fine Art Collection Highlighting Work from Self-trained Artists

The Rehoboth Art League opens five new art exhibitions this May as the summer season nears. From May 10, RAL will display two shows featuring works from their permanent Fine Art Collection — “Sitting Pretty,” which is curated by Le Rowell and Denise Clemons, and “Self-Taught” — two oil painting exhibitions — “Sea Change: Works by Stephen Estrada” and “The Everyday: Oil Paintings by Michael McSorley” — and one art quilt show — “From River to Ocean: Textile Art by Anne Bellas.”
On the evening of May 10th from 5-7 pm, the art league will be hosting an opening reception for these new exhibits, inviting anyone interested to visit the Corkran, Tubbs, Ventures, and Homestead galleries to see the displayed work.
From May 10 to July 14, the league will have two unique curated shows on display to highlight pieces from RAL’s permanent fine art collection. The historic Peter Marsh Homestead will display the exhibit “Self-Taught,” which features pieces from artists who are considered to be self-trained. While some may have taken some art classes at RAL, the majority have never attended a formal art school and began creating art out of an internal desire to express themselves.
