December is one of those months where there is always something going on, no matter where you are. If you’re lucky enough to make it to the Eastern Shore during the holidays, there’s no shortage of family-friendly concerts, parades, and shows to keep everyone busy! If you’ve never gotten the chance to experience the beach during the winter season, right now is the perfect time to dive headfirst into all the fun and adventure in store for this holiday season!

1.    Schellville   
When: Thursdays-Sundays | Through December 31 | 5 to 9 p.m. 
Where: Behind Tanger Outlets Seaside | Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
This year Schellville is bigger than ever before, featuring tons of fun, activities for families and kids of all ages. Check out the many cool attractions like the Snow Zone, Maze of Lights, Beer Garden, Roller Rink, Believe-O-Meter, Snowflake Stage, and so much more! Tickets to this event are FREE, but it’s recommended to make a reservation in advance to guarantee a spot!

2.    Lewes Lights
When: December 1st through 31st 
Where: Lewes, DE
Each December, hundreds of Lewes homeowners and businesses decorate their properties exteriors for the holiday season. Beginning December 1st, visitors are provided a driving tour map of decorated properties within Lewes and the option to vote for their favorite homes within several award categories including the most coveted award, "The Clark Griswold of Lewes 2021." The opening ceremony is on December 3 at Manilla Avenue, and the map for the tour will be released on the website. 

3.    Winter WonderFest
When: Through Sunday, January 2 | 5 to 10 p.m.
Where: Hudson Fields | 29763 Eagle Crest Road, Milton, DE 19968
WonderFest, Delaware’s biggest holiday event, will return to Hudson Fields for its sixth season, with a drive-through experience showcasing exciting new Sussex County-themed light displays. Journey through a winter wonderland full of holiday lights, visits with Santa, hayrides, and more at this merry and bright event each night. Vehicle passes and hayride tickets can be purchased online. 

4.    Scrooge! By Clear Space Theater 
When: Through December 19 
Where: Clear Space Theater Company | 20 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
This timeless musical follows the plot of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, in which the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Featuring songs like “A Better Life,” “I Like Life,” and “Thank You Very Much,” this score will get you into the Christmas spirit.

5.    Christmas Concert Series 
When: Every Wednesday | 7 to 9 p.m. 
Where: The Pines | 56 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
Every Wednesday night in December at The Pines in Rehoboth Beach there will be a special performance from the Christmas Concert Series that anyone can attend for just $25 a ticket! The shows feature numerous well-known entertainment groups including The Eddie Sherman Show, Bryan Scar & Barn Owls, Webb T’s Soul Patrol Motown Christmas Show, and The Christmas Cartoon Trio!

6.    Cookies and Cocoa with Santa
When: Friday, December 3 to Saturday, December 4 | 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Where: Rehoboth Beach Public Library | 226 Rehoboth Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
Join the Rehoboth Beach Public Library for their Annual Santa visit storytime! Families will go home with a hardcover book, cookies, and a jar of cocoa mix to help stay warm this winter! Friday's session will be an extended "Tot Time" for 6 months to 3-years-old, and Saturday's session will be for children aged 4 and older.

7.    Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade
When: Monday, December 6 | 6:30 p.m. 
Where: Rehoboth Beach, DE
The 2021 Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade will be presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. This year’s goal is to make the parade the largest it’s ever been. All participants and attendees are invited to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Station Museum after the Parade for Santa’s Christmas Party, an event with refreshments, and a visit with Santa Claus for a small gift. Bring friends and family out for a night of holiday fun for all. 

8.    89th Annual Lewes Parade 
When: Saturday, December 4 | 5 p.m. 
Where: Lewes, DE
The theme of this year’s annual Lewes Christmas parade, presented by the City of Lewes and the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, is “Celebrating an Old-Fashioned Christmas in Lewes.”  This year, the parade is honoring all pandemic frontline workers. Prior to the parade’s kick-off, local entertainer JGar will perform live holiday music in Zwaanendael Park.  After the parade, the tradition has been to officially illuminate the Christmas tree in Zwaanendael Park followed by candlelight caroling in the park, led by Christy Taylor.

9.    Winter Wonder Weekend at Children's Beach House


Wonder Holiday Celebration
When: Friday, December 3 | 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: 1800 Bay Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958
Entertainment by Pamala Stanley and 2nd Time Around, with open-bar cocktails, dinner by Touch of Italy, and a live auction! Winter White attire is encouraged and tickets are $150 each.


Santa’s Workshop
When: Saturday, December 4 | First Workshop: 10am – 12pm | Second Workshop:  2pm – 4pm
Where: 1800 Bay Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958
Fun for the whole family! Join Santa and his helpers to decorate cookies, make holiday crafts, and more! Holiday snacks will be provided for all. A cash bar with Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s will be available for 21+ attendees. Tickets are $30 per person and are free for children ages 2 and under.


Santa’s Workshop Happy Hour with the Boy Band Project 
When: Saturday, December 5| 4 to 7 p.m.
Where: 1800 Bay Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958
Wear your best Holiday Sweaters and enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres by Blue Moon, and the show! Featuring The Boy Band Project: an electric, boy band cover group that re-­imagines the sound, movement, and energy of NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, and more. This group of boys comes directly from the stages of Broadway! Winner of the 2019 Broadway World Award for “Best Group”! Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online. 


10.    The Nutcracker Sussex Ballet
When: Saturday, December 11 | 7 p.m. 
Where: Cape Henlopen High School | 1250 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958
Sussex Ballet presents its 18th annual performance of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker. Sussex Ballet, a youth ballet company, is comprised of dancers from Sussex Dance Academy in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and falls under the direction of Kate Downes Walker.  This year's production is a children-only cast (no professional dancers). Dancers auditioned in August and have been in rehearsal since September. Sussex Ballet is pleased to perform the ballet for its local audience.


11.    Slam Dunk to the Beach 
When: December 27 to 29
Where: Cape Henlopen High School | 1250 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958
The 2021 Hoophall East basketball showcase hosted by Slam Dunk to the Beach will take place December 27-29 at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, DE. The event will feature numerous nationally-ranked teams and players from across eight different states. Tickets range from $18 to $20. 


12.    NYE @ The Starboard
When: Friday, December 31 | 7 p.m. 
Where: The Starboard | 2009 SR-1, Dewey Beach, DE 19971 
Starboard's Annual New Year’s Eve Party is back in full force, and will be the best place to rage and welcome in the new year!  With things mostly back to 'normal’, the Starboard is excited to ring in the New Year Starboard style as 2022 is sure to be an outstanding Dewey Beach season. With entertainment by DJ Smoky and a FREE champagne toast at Midnight, this party represents Starboard Hospitality at its best! There will also be complete BBQ and Seafood stations throughout as well as tons of party favors! Tickets are $40 per person.
