Lewes
Historical Society is comprised of a collection of
twelve old-town
Lewes historical sites, nine of which are centrally located on a complex at the
intersection of Second and Shipcarpenter Street. The Cannonball House (1765) is
one of the most well-known landmarks in Lewes. Visitors flock to see the famous
house with the cannonball still stuck in its side. Now, it is home to nationally
important maritime art and memorabilia. The Burton-Ingram House (1785) is
nationally recognized for its architectural significance to lower Delaware. It
houses elegant furnishings, and fine art. Additional Lewes Historical sites
include the Ryves Holt House, Rabbits Ferry House, Lewes Lifesaving Station
Boathouse, Ellegood House, Hiram Rodney Burton House, Midway School #178,
Blacksmith Shop, Early Plank House, Old Doctors Office, and Thompson Country
